Game Performance Against Best Practice
How does our AI work?
Game performance is not just about individual KPI assessment. Gamers play in complex arenas where patterns
of performance involving multiple KPI’s can be more important than the individual measures.
Prior
to AI technologies becoming more widely available, it was near impossible to hardcode all the possible input
and output patterns. Now we can both recognize and assess those patterns and of course, over time, get even
smarter as more of your games are assessed and our AI gets smarter.
Take a look at below some of
our KPI and pattern analysis tools optimized for each game type.
For each individual game, we have created a set of core KPI’s (approximately 20 for each game) that fundamentally describes game performance. For each of these KPI’s, we set a sliding scale of performance and color code them so you can see at a glance how you are doing against best practice for all levels.
As you improve your performance and increase your achieved level, the scores will increase.
And while this data is interesting, it is often difficult to assess where to focus to improve and the overall story of your performance.
To provide a clearer picture of performance, the Heat Map bundles the 20 or so KPI’s into common sense bundles or dimensions.
These dimensions cover your recent form (Scoreboard), how you prepared for the game and planned your game (Strategy), how you played (Gameplay), how you navigated through the game (Map Control) and how you worked and communicated with your team (Teamwork).
Each dimension is scored as an average score across the KPI’s (at this stage weighted equally) and then compared against best practice (and color coded).
Correlation is a statistical term which describes two variables that are linearly related. In simple terms for us, it means that if one of your KPI’s goes up, the correlated one should too.
More accurately stated, our correlation analysis does not measure correlation as that is embedded in the functions of the KPI’s. What our correlation analysis does is check to see if there are correlation anomalies.
That is, where two KPI’s should reflect the other, and they don’t, then something has gone wrong in the way you executed the game and that analysis gives us, and you, valuable insight into improvement.
Whilst not used extensively in the analysis (remember, keep things simple silly), there are a few unique patterns of KPI that do provide unique insights.
When looking at the League of Legends KPI set, for example the ‘Golden Triangle’ KPI’s of Map Score (how did I navigate), Shot Accuracy (did I shoot straight) and Avg Comms (did I talk to my team) cover an essential set of data to show how you did.
The balance of these KPI’s provides a unique insight at the KPI level into how you did and what you can do better in the future.
The core patterns that come from the single pattern analysis are (this example is for target-based games like LOL or COD):
- Winners Circle (am I winning and getting better)
- Check out the Big Brain (strategic assessment)
- The Golden Triangle (overall performance indicator)
- Shooting Gallery (how deadly am I with my weapons)
- Kumbiah (how am I talking with my team and creating great teamwork?)
- The multi-pattern analysis scores you against combinations of these vectors.
